Need to detox? Contrast baths or contrast showers are a simple and cost-effective way to promote detoxification in your body. Especially combined with dry skin brushing.

Contrast baths, also known as contrast hydros, are basically just alternating between a hot and cold shower or bath.

Their health benefits however, are not so basic. Done regularly they can strengthen your immune system, improve circulation and help you detox by getting the body to remove waste more efficiently.

If you want to deep cleanse and energize your body follow the simple steps below.


Contrast Bath

The simplest way to do a contrast hydro session in your bathroom is to have the bath filled with hot water and use the shower for the cold application.

If you only have a shower, or a combined shower/ bath, then you can alternate between hot and cold showers.

When you are beginning, start off at 2 minutes for hot and 20 seconds for cold and build up from there.

If you feel yourself becoming too chilled, stop immediately and warm up in a hot bath or shower.

Please note: Don’t use contrast hydros if you have high blood pressure, any heart-related condition, diabetes or nervous hypertension. You should always check with your doctor before beginning any natural treatments.

The Steps

Step 1 Ensure your bathroom is well heated.

Step 2 Fill your bath with water as hot as you can stand it. Start with 3 minutes in the hot bath.

Step 3 Get into the cold shower for up to 1 minute.

Step 4 Hop back into the hot bath for 3 minutes.

Step 5 Get into the cold shower for up to 1 minute.
