Safe use of essential oils
Read through these guidelines for safe use of essential oils;
Essential Oils should always be mixed with a carrier for direct application to the skin.
Always do a skin test before applying a new essential oil to your skin. Put a few drops (diluted) on the inside of your wrist, cover with a bandaid and leave it for 24 hours.
Do not take essential oils internally.
Keep essential oils out of the reach of children.
Do not expose your skin to direct sunlight after applying citrus oils.
Keep essential oils out of the reach of children.
Essential oils should be stored in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
If you are pregnant you should always check with your doctor before using any essential oils.
The following oils should never be used in pregnancy;
Aniseed, Basil, Birch, Camphor, Cedarwood, Clove, Cypress, Fennel (sweet), Geranium, Hyssop, Jasmine, Juniper, Marjoram, Myrrh, Origanum, Pennyroyal, Peppermint, Rose, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme or Wintergarden.
The following oils should not be used by those with high blood pressure because they may exacerbate the condition;
Hyssop, Rosemary, Sage and Thyme.
The following essential oils should not be used by people with epilepsy because of their potential action on the nervous system;
Fennel (sweet), Hyssop, Rosemary, Wormwood and Sage (all types).
When using aromatherapy on children age six to twelve and the elderly, cut all doses in half.
Do not use on infants.
Keep oils away from mucous membranes and eyes.
Always do your own research on the effects of an essential oil prior to using it.
